Hardy upgrade is smooth!

A week before the release of Ubuntu 8.04 I decided to install the beta version on one of the servers at work. Needless to say, the installation went smooth as with any Ubuntu upgrade. Nobody even noticed any lag or hiccups. After the final version was released, I upgraded all the packages that needed upgrading. The load on the server went down 20%, which is always good.

I also upgraded my workstation at home and, apart from the fact the Ubuntu’s servers were a little slow, the upgrade went extremely smooth. Memory consumption went down, so did CPU usage.

Also, at work, I decided to install Xubuntu on a PIII box that was sitting around and aside from a faulty hard drive, it went so smooth it was scarry. The poor thing was running Windows 2003 Server but now it is a happy camper with Xubuntu. This machine will replace an OLD PII running Windows 98 for one of our customer service reps. She will be happy on monday!

I will be posting a more detailed review of Ubuntu 8.04 as I get to use it a little more, I just wanted to say that the upgrade process went great on all the computer I’ve tried so far. I still need to upgrade our file server, which went super smooth last time. I’ll keep you posted!
